Join the JLD Committee for 2026/2027
The JLD committee is welcoming applications for several roles on the committee for 2026/2027.
Deadline for applications is midnight on 10th April 2026.
Applications are welcome from all who meet the criteria set out in the role descriptions and please get in touch if you have any questions or would like any further information about any of the roles.
If more than one applicant applies for each role, there will be a public vote open to all eligible Sheffield JLD members. All applicants will be contacted to confirm the outcome of the applications and next steps on 13th April 2026. The public vote will be open from 14th to 20th April 2026.
There is an opt out for this on the application form if you would not like to be included in a public vote.
FELT Representative
The Sheffield JLD is seeking an enthusiastic FELT Representative to join the committee. The aim of the role is to encourage engagement from junior lawyers from firms with less than eight trainees. Previous representatives have encouraged engagement from lawyers who work in boutique, high street and in-house firms.
Key Responsibilities:

Act as a central point of contact for FELT members, fostering engagement and encouraging participation in events.

Represent the views, concerns, and ideas of FELT members at committee meetings, ensuring their perspectives are considered in decision-making.

Plan events tailored to FELT members. Previous events have included Pizza Making, Pottery Painting and Darts.

Encourage growth by promoting the JLD.
Who We’re Looking For:

An individual who has personal experience in working in a firm with eight or less trainees across offices.

Proactive and approachable, with the ability to engage a wide range of members
-
Organised and reliable, with the ability to contribute consistently to the committee.

A genuine interest in supporting FELT junior lawyers in Sheffield.
SQE Representative
The Sheffield JLD is seeking an enthusiastic SQE Representative to join the committee. This role is ideal for someone who is currently undertaking or has completed the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and is passionate about supporting aspiring solicitors in our region. The SQE Representative will also be supported by our Education Representative.
Key Responsibilities:

Act as the committee’s SQE lead, offering insight into the SQE route and representing the interests of SQE students and future qualifiers.

Liaise with local universities, training providers, and students to build strong connections and ensure the JLD remains a visible and supportive presence for those on the SQE pathway.

Organise and coordinate SQE focused events, including workshops, networking sessions, and information evenings to support individuals preparing for or considering the SQE.

Provide feedback and updates to the wider committee on trends, challenges, and issues faced by SQE candidates.
Who We’re Looking For:

Someone currently studying for or who has completed the SQE, preferably an individual who has experience sitting at least one of the examinations so that their experience can be shared with others. .

Confident communicating with students, providers, and legal professionals.

Organised, proactive, and keen to contribute to the development of junior lawyers in Sheffield.
Social Media Representative
The Sheffield JLD is seeking a savvy Social Media Representative to join the committee. An ideal person for this role will be comfortable in using and promoting the Sheffield JLD and activities through Social Media Channels.
Key Responsibilites:

Creating content for Instagram and Linkedin, promoting events, sharing information and engaging with members and the wider legal community.

Working with other committee members to ensure a smooth flow of information and sharing.

Liaising with sponsors and venues about social media content.

Engaging with posts and content.

Sharing photos and update from events
Who we are looking for:
-
Some who is organised, with good time management skills to ensure that content shared on social media to promote the JLD and events.

Someone who is creative and innovative with excellent skills in using different social media platforms.

Someone who will work well with other members of the committee to promote the JLD events, projects and engage with members.
